Both of the stories are about people who are trying to get out of something. In "The Story of an Hour", Mrs. Mallard is trying to not think about the death of her husband, or she is trying to get out of a bad relationship. In "The Use of Force," the little girl is trying to hide that she is sick from everybody throughout the entire story. In the end the little girl ends up being forced into something that she does not want to do.
